# Re-shield

> Replace a standard shielded note with a fresh note that is harder to connect to your deposit wallet.

Re-shield replaces a standard-denomination note with a fresh note. It is intended to make your current spendable balance harder to connect to the wallet that made the original deposit.

<Warning>
  Re-shield does not erase the original public deposit. Low pool activity or close timing can still support correlation, and the action does not hide your IP address or request timing from the service operator.
</Warning>

## Re-shield a note

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Re-shield">
    Select **Re-shield** from the home screen. This action appears only when the current deployment supports it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose an asset and note">
    Select an available standard-denomination note. Swap outputs and shielded change may use non-standard amounts and might not be eligible.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the privacy explanation">
    Confirm that you understand the original deposit remains visible and that re-shielding reduces links rather than removing them.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the replacement note">
    Start the action and keep the page open. Your browser proves the note transition and tracks the replacement through confirmation.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Check>
  A completed re-shield leaves you with a fresh note under the same shielded identity. Your public wallet does not receive the value during the replacement.
</Check>

## When re-shield is unavailable

* You do not have a standard-denomination note.
* Your balance consists only of swap outputs or shielded change.
* The deployment has temporarily disabled the feature.
* A prior attempt is still awaiting a final status.

Use **Rescan** before retrying an interrupted action. Do not repeat the action while its status is uncertain.
